Alternate Care Sites

An Alternate Care Center (ACS) is a facility temporarily established during large scale disasters to provide care for an overflow of patients.

A facility generally not co-located with a hospital that expands the communities ability to provide inpatient care, agent specific therapy, and supportive care. When Alternate Care Centers are anticipated, the NDMS Federal Response Plan request should be activated to request additional providers (DMATS).

Planning for ACS (accommodations, equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals) must incorporate the needs of at-risk groups.
